Debit Card Fraud

Canada leads the world in Debit and Credit Card transactions, so it is no surprise that Debit card fraud continues to be a major concern in Canada. The latest trend involves criminals swapping a merchant’s PIN pad with a modified PIN pad that collects card and PIN number information from customers. The criminal then returns and swaps the PIN pad back and uses the collected data to create fraudulent, functional debit cards.
Concord Security is working with Interac Association and local law enforcement agencies to coordinate merchant information sessions at shopping centres to educate merchants on how to protect themselves from this growing threat. The sessions are conducted free of charge and include a 1 hour session for merchants followed by a brief training session for site security staff instructing them on how to identify modified PIN pads and how to further educate merchants on the issue.
If you are interested in arranging a session at your property, contact your Concord Account Manager or email us, or find more information on the Interac Association and their programs.
