Car Thief Apprehended

Saanich police credit a Concord Security guard at Mayfair Shopping Centre with the capture of an alleged car thief.

On Monday, the Concord Security guard noticed a man acting suspiciously in the mall. The guard followed the man to the parking lot, where he allegedly saw the suspect put gloves on before unlocking and getting into a mini-van.

The guard quickly called the police, relaying descriptions of the man and vehicle along with the licence plate. Police determined the van was one reported stolen from the lot of Wille Dodge on Douglas Street before it opened on Monday.

A 20-year-old man was located and arrested by police.
