ScareCrow Sprinkler Power Puts Taggers On The Run
The ScareCrow is a device that was originally developed to protect gardens and yards from pest animals like deer, raccoons, and squirels. The device consists of a sprinkler head and a motion detector with a tight line of sight. When the motion detector senses movement, the sprinkler is activated. The noise and water scare off any invading animals without harming them.
A property in California was experiencing graffiti on a specific wall two to three times a week. As fast as the Property Manager could have the wall painted, vandals would return and tag the wall.
The Property Manager saw the ScareCrow and came up with an application to stop the graffiti. Three Scare Crow units were mounted high on the wall with the motion sensors pointing down to the ground. The units serve two purposes; not only does it spray the would-be taggers with cold water, it also leaves the wall too wet to paint. The building has not been tagged in the 6 months since the ScareCrow unit was installed.
The ScareCrow uses a directed motion sensor that is deigned to catch movement on the ground. By installing it high on a wall (between 15 and 30 feet high) and pointing it toward the ground it catches movement close to the wall only. It can be connected to the building water supply with a standard garden hose.
